About Taqwa Glassworks Fusing Classes

Date: 3/5/11 Time: 12:00 p.m - 3:00 p. m.

Limited class size: 6 per class
No Refunds:there is no refund on payment if you cannot participate.
Class Name: Hot Glass Class: Simple Fusing Projects: Pin, Earrings, Pindant
Price: $35.00
Includes: all materials, firing time and finish work
Class involves: theory, technique, designing, colour choice, construction, and firing in the kiln.
Finish time: 3 hours to completion of project, overnight to cool, additonal finish time provided by me.

Fusing Class II: Class particulars

Fusing Class II is a simple fusing class. We concentrate on a small project: earrings, a pin, or a pindant (a pin and pendant combination). The objective of the class is to teach students about how glass works in a kiln, how to gauge your project pre-firing, and how to construct a project to achieve the finish product desired.
We keep the projects small and satisfying. All projects must be fired in the kiln, and this occurs during class time: at the finish of firing all projects must cool overnight, and I will do all the finishing work (hole drilling, addition of any findings: post backs for studs, jump-rings and ear wires) the next morning.
You must make arrangements to pick up your project, but for a $7.00 shipping fee, I would be glad to mail them to you on the Monday following the Saturday class.
You will learn: glass colours and types, how and why glass works the way it does (the science behind it), how to create your project, what not to do and how different glasses respond in the heat. I have all kinds of materials to work with, and also will provide dichroic glass and examples of how this marvelous gem like glass works in the kiln.
I will cut any shapes you need, and during the second hour we have all the creative time you need...experimenting with designs and materials well before you glue your project is encouraged.
I do reserve the right to edit, and this is really to assure that your project will work the way you want it to.
HOWEVER: there is also a natural developement that takes place in the kiln and no results are guaranteed...glass moves and changes, and these changes are part of the natural movement during "firing". Please be prepared for the "happy accident"...there are results that are unexpected and beautiful.
Students wishing to accomplish larger projects can do so at a later class, and larger projects (available to peruse in the class) are more expensive.

You would be welcome to ask them what they thought of the class, and I think you will find a great time and learning experience was had by all, and they all went home with a beautiful piece of hand made art...

New Work hanging in the New Shop, Photos of custom panels



Proud of myself today, contacted old customers about pending work projects that have languished not only from lack of response, but also from lack of initiative from me...and all the responses were favourable!!! Everyone has expressed interest in continuing on with the projects this year, and I have a whole new roster of custom work to look forward to!! Picked up my work from Cortile Gallery, and am in the process of getting my kiln hooked up, specifically to get them new and exciting work for the summer. I have all new molds, and I'm really looking forwarding to working with a new red antique this year...test firing on the way. in the mean time, here are a couple of new photos Marsha sent me of the repaired panel hanging on the wall...it looks great.
